FGP Precision Engineering – A Brief History
The original Fine-grind Products was founded in 1970 as a subcontract precision grinding company with a high reputation for small ground components working to very tight tolerances. In 1983, Fine Grind Products change hands. The new management continued to build on the sound foundation set by their predecessor, concentrating on quality, price and delivery
Whilst slowly expanding through the eighties, it was apparent that Fine Grind’s customers were happy with the precision grinding service and were encouraging expansion to supply turned and milled parts. By 1987, Fine Grind Products were offering a full and comprehensive manufacturing facility and had relocated to a purpose built factory occupying 2500 square feet. Further expansion followed and in 1996, Fine Grind Products purchased P.B.S. Precision Engineering Ltd with a further expansion to their premises which now offered 8500 square feet of machining area and 2500 square feet of administration, assembly and inspection area. The workforce had also increased during that period from 8 highly skilled operatives to 60.
In April 1999, the company name was changed incorporating Fine Grind Products and P.B.S. Precision Engineering Ltd to form a new company called FGP Precision Engineering Ltd, offering a complete sub-contract machining facility to its customers, representing a wide range of industries including Aircraft, Automotive, Hydraulic and Nuclear.
In June 2001 FGP Purchased the adjoining site of approximately one acre with plans passed for further expansion.
May 2006 was another milestone in the history of this Weymouth based precision engineering company. An experienced engineering group acquired the assets of the company and set out to expand and diversify the processes and manufacturing capabilities.
In the precision engineering market FGP is now, without doubt, a benchmark business. It employs an excellent team of highly skilled men and women and the Company is held in very high regard by all its customers. This is the solid foundation on which FGP plans future expansion and development. New machinery with the latest technology coupled with the development of new factory buildings will see FGP grow to become a major supplier to the UK and overseas.
