So in this video today we are going to be putting in the SJA17F8MPW Repair Kit into our Power Supply board right here using the Ai7F8MPW board. This repair kit solves a lot of common failures on these boards, most notably when your fuse blows immediately as soon as you apply power and this is due to some shorted components. This kit is also upgraded over the original manufacturers specs, so it should help hopefully stop this from happening again the future.
So the Kit comes like this, all the components are going to be bagged up and they should show their location with the board number. We can go through and pull them all out. It comes with a replacement fuse as well, because yours is most likely blown. A couple resistors and the only piece that actually goes on the under side of the board that can be a bit of a pain to find is this one right here. Everything else is going to be on the top side and its all pretty close to the power.
So when we are replacing the parts in this kit, you are going to want to replace all the parts that are used on your board. Sometimes, certain diodes are not used for example if it is not used on your original you can just leave it out. You will want to replace all the parts that are used, don’t leave anything out. If anything is shorted it could cause the board to blow again. The resistors are really easy, so R602 and 611 are each of these two right here, it doesn’t matter which way they go in and you can just put those in anyway around and it makes no difference. The same goes for R608 this one right here. Once again it can go in either way it doesn’t make any difference. So we are going to start off an replace Q600 which is right here. First off you are going to take your philips head and undue the screw. Once you remove the screw you are going to want to flip the board over and the desolder the component on the other side.
There we go, you will need a little bit of paste, but sometimes you can reuse the stuff that is on there as long as it is not dried out. Otherwise just a little bit of thermal paste on there before you put the new one on. OK, so here we have our new one and if you notice the legs on the original are obviously bent into a different shape, so you are going to have to bend that end to make it fit.
OK, so we have got the original chip off of there and now we are going to take our desolder wick and we are going to clean up those pads. Get them nice and flat and clean for the new one to go on. We got a little residue on the board from cleaning it up, but it is not going to affect anything.
Next we need to put our chip in and these need to go in a certain direction. If you look on the board, it does tell you. There is a solid black line right here and if you look carefully on the chip there is a dark gray band on one side. It can be tough to see, but you do need to get these around so they match. So my dark band and the black line go together like that. Then I will use my tweezers just to try and help hold it in place. You can use your finger, but obviously you risk burning it.
You should be able to kind of wiggle it out, there it goes. Got it loose and out it comes. Now, one thing we want to be careful of is when we put this in, we want to make sure we get it the right way around and if you look at the other ones right here they kind of give you a hint. This little line at this end and there is also a black line right on the diode and that is the way you want to put it in. You can fold it beforehand to make it a little bit easier, so you are going to get it into rough shape.
OK so we have put it in and we bent the pins back to hold it in place, it stops it from falling back through. Now we are going to take some flux and just paint it around the pins and the pad.
So in this video we went through some of the tougher components and the ones that have directional needs and you are going to have to make sure they are going the right way, otherwise you are going to damage the board or the component. These last remaining ones, it does not matter which direction they go in as long as you replace them and put them in the correct spot, that is good to go.
